What is a swim spa

A swim spa is a long tub with a counter-current created by jets or a turbine, allowing you to swim in place against the flow. One or two zones typically include a whirlpool section with seating and massage. Length ranges from 4 to 6 metres, depth is around 1.3 to 1.5 metres, and temperature varies from 26 °C for swimming to 38 °C for relaxation depending on use.

When a swim spa makes more sense than a pool

  • You have space for 6 metres, not 10. A swim spa fits on a larger terrace or in a small garden.
  • You want to swim all year round. The insulated tub and thermal cover retain heat even in winter; the pool is prepared for winter.
  • Do you want to exercise: against the current, rowing, aqua bike, water running.
  • No construction required: a swim spa is delivered and installed, not months of building work.

If your main goal is swimming lengths with children and you have the space, a traditional pool is better; we handle those on... novybazen.cz.

Single-zone or two-zone

The single-zone model has swimming and massage sections in the same water; it is shorter and cheaper to run. The two-zone model features a separate hot tub with its own temperature, allowing you to swim at 28 °C while sitting next to it at 38 °C. For families where some members swim and others relax, the two-zone version is more practical.

What a swim spa requires

  • Concrete slab dimensioned for 8 to 12 tonnes (hot tub, water, people).
  • Supply 400 V with a stronger circuit breaker than for the hot tub, separate circuit, inspection.
  • A crane is always required for installation; a swim spa cannot be moved over a fence or through a gate.
  • Space around for the thermal cover and service access to the equipment.

Installation into a terrace or ground is common for swim spas, see built-in hot tubs.

What you are asking about

Is it really possible to swim in a swim spa?

Yes, the counter-current is adjustable from a gentle flow for beginners to a strong one for fitness swimming. You swim in place, so the tub's length does not determine how long you swim.

How much does a swim spa weigh?

When filled with people, it typically weighs 8 to 12 tonnes depending on length. It therefore requires a concrete slab and a crane, not a deck built on beams.

How long does heating take?

From tap water temperature to swimming temperature usually takes one to two days depending on volume and heating power. Thereafter the temperature is merely maintained, which is energy-efficient thanks to insulation and the cover.
